The Mummy MOT® – Specialist Postnatal Physiotherapy Check
Your body goes through major changes during pregnancy and birth – but postnatal recovery is often overlooked. The Mummy MOT® was developed to help women understand how their bodies are healing, feel confident again, and get the individual support they deserve.
Originally created by pelvic health physiotherapist Maria Elliott, the Mummy MOT® has become a trusted part of postnatal care across the UK. It’s been featured on TV, in magazines and across social media – helping to bring women’s health and recovery into the spotlight.
At Jen Stroud Physiotherapy, the Mummy MOT® is a detailed, one-to-one check tailored to your needs – whether you gave birth 6 weeks ago or several years ago.
You can book from:
-
6 weeks after a vaginal birth
-
8 weeks after a caesarean section
Your appointment includes:
-
Postural and movement assessment
-
Tummy muscle check (for abdominal separation/diastasis recti)
-
Pelvic floor assessment
-
Review of any symptoms such as back, hip or pelvic pain
-
Scar assessment (including C-section and perineal scars)
-
Advice on returning to lifting, running or other impact exercise safely
-
A personalised recovery and rehab plan
This is a safe, supportive space to talk openly about your birth story and any concerns – including leaking, prolapse, pain, scarring, or simply wanting reassurance that you’re healing well.
You’ll get the most from your Mummy MOT® if you can attend on your own, so we can fully focus on you without interruptions. But if that’s not possible, you’re very welcome to bring your baby along – we’ll do our best to work around them.
Follow-on care is available if needed – including pelvic floor and core rehab, scar therapy, manual therapy, and support with returning to fitness or lifting safely. All care is tailored to you, at your pace, with no pressure.
